Effects Of Trauma
Trauma can lead to a range of emotional and psychological problems including PTSD anxiety, phobias. depressive symptoms, excessive anger and attachment disorders, both in children and adults.
Early childhood trauma is often at the root of current day presenting problems though the event may be long forgotten. The past can cast its shadow over the here and now.
How does EMDR work?
EMDR speeds up the effects of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep which is a process that our brain uses to tidy away the events of the day to store away memories. However if we have too many small or large traumas, or our sleep is disrupted by stress, noise, alcohol or medications we don't get enough REM cycles to do the job. By providing Bilateral Stimulation, the brain can process memories stored in the body and brain. It is these memories that pop up and catch us out leading to changes in mood and thoughts.
